Hello Everyone!
I am now going to post regular updates on this blog so that you can keep abreast of developments. I have been receiving a lot of interest from people wanting to join and I am copying below the list of those who have sent recent enquiries and who will be joining us in the forthcoming meetings at the chateau. There are, so far, 17 adults and 8 children who will be coming to participate and find out more over the autumn and winter and they have an amazing range of skills, abilities, qualifications and interests between them. If you check out the list below, you will see what I mean! Thank you all for your interest and enthusiasm and keep passing the message on. We will have an amazing first group of community members to start the project off next year, I am absolutely sure of that.

This was the veggie garden this summer - more flowers than veggies! Lots of bees and butterflies...

Main recent news...

I have just been to the first meeting of the local planning steering group and I am one of the committee members along with 12 others.
The first meeting last week was a presentation which covered the planning laws and the local and regional strategic objectives, within which the activities of this project fit perfectly – promotion of ecological initiatives, tourism, education and local economy. There is a public exhibition in the local community hall in November where we will have the information about Eco Chateau displayed.
I have meetings planned for Eco Chateau for those interested in joining the co-housing at the end of this month, in December and in February and, already, places are being booked up.(link to the new calendar of Eco Chateau: http://www.eco-chateau.com/co-housing-calendar.htm) The latest newsletter was sent out two weeks ago and I am getting new enquiries daily. Below is a list of the first people to confirm they will be coming ...
I have decided to add another meeting date in April when the weather will be getting warm and the spring will be manifesting. Dates to be confirmed
One couple has already confirmed their intention to join. They are a French couple who have lived and worked all over the world. They are totally committed to the project having been to stay twice. (I will post further information and photos of these two very special people soon)

Here is a view of the south-facing slope where we will build our first 'eco' homes, nestled into the hillside, semi-underground with large windows for catching all that warmth and light of the sun.....

Bernard & Agnes from France: Bernard has been a practising water engineer for many years, working on projects all over the world. Agnes has an amazing talent for growing things amongst many other skills. (more detailed info to follow)

Janet from the UK: I am a good organiser, administrator, budget creator/manager and an excellent haggler. I can organise courses and produce good, clear materials. I can support those who have expertise in practical eco-skills to teach them to others (I used to run courses for adult education tutors). I could (depending on what fitted with the group) organise holidays with external tutors (eg music, dance, horticulture, medicinal foods…), run therapeutic groups or do administration for self-programming visiting groups. I speak reasonable French and some Spanish

Hrysi from Greece: Studies in Archeology and Art history in the University. Diploma in Life Coaching from the University of Athens. For the last 14 years I am working with Colour counsultations, Reiki, Flower essences and I am teaching courses about colours and their use (decoration, healing, self knowledge ect.) and also Reiki. For about 10 years I was training people to become colour practitioners. I speak English, German and Greek.

Sherina & 2 children (4 & 5) from the UK: I am a trained Teacher, currently teaching children with special educational needs. My degree is in Early Childhood Studies so I would also be able to assist with the home schooling aspect. In addition to this I am a trained and experienced ESL Teacher, which I could potentially work as for the initial year if necessary

KATHY & ALVARO & 2 young children from UK and Guatemala:

My husband is a surveyor and civil engineer with much experience in the planning and construction of drainage and water installations in remote upland communities as well as lowland housing developments, and, as a Guatemalan, he's well used to working with locally available and limited resources! Over the last 3 years, he's also gained experience in many aspects of building construction in the UK, and is currently working as a stone mason. I'm a plant ecologist with a PhD in habitat creation and restoration. I now work for the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group as an assistant farm conservation adviser and project officer, and I have much experience in organising and promoting community events. We have 2 young children as well as a small flock of free-range, rare-breed, hens!

I am a raw food chef and studying Naturopathic Nutrition and Raw Nutrition. I teach workshops in live foods as well as catering for events, festivals and groups. My business is young but developing well and I am due to begin writing my first book in the next few weeks. I also teach belly dance!
Anthony is a great administrator, people person and good in retail positions and loves to be of help to anyone who needs it. His passion is in his music and writings and out in the wild places developing deep connections with Nature. He loves to help in the kitchen and at events and in the garden too! Luke is 29 has a deep spirituality and understanding of natural cycles. He has a passion to create amazing eco-projects, from compost toilets to solar showers and beyond to building hobbit houses. He is a qualified plumber.

Noelle from the USA: I have a proven sales and marketing track record that I know could build the businesses at the community. I would be very interested in developing the tourism business and any other cottage industries. I have both worked for myself in sales and for a large company so I think I have what it takes to contribute excellence in this arena. I’ve developed shamanic leadership skills and would love to contribute a ‘circle’ to the community and offer spiritual leadership.

Paul from the UK: I first trained as a joiner, and worked through to a director position as a practising chartered building surveyor, with a plc (the rat race). Having left

the industry (before the 72hrs per week put me in a box), I went on to retrain
as an electrician, (only low voltage systems up to 230v which essentially
allows me to work on any domestic / small commercial property. I now undertake energy assessment work on a part time basis having taken semi retirement.

Anna, René & 3 children (1, 2, 12 yrs) from Holland: We are a dutch family. René (50) is a massage therapist and massage teacher since more than 20 years. Anna (34) is a writer, dream therapist, teacher in understanding dreams and she gives HypnoBirthing classes. She wrote a book about understanding dreams and this year her book about conscious birth was published (vrije geboorte: birthing in freedom). We are both doing our work with joy and gratitude and continue to grow in it. Our children are 1 (Jana, girl), 2 (Lotus, boy) and 12 (Chadim, Anna's son). We are vegetarians and eat organic foods. In our little garden we are growing many sorts of vegetables and edible plants.

Narcissus and Echo

The story of Narcissus and Echo is a beautiful one. Narcissus, in love with himself, could never love. Echo, unable to speak, could only repeat that which she heard. ….it was originally written by the Roman poet Ovid as part of his work 'Metamorphoses'.

The story is told in Book III of the Metamorphoses, and tells the story of a "talkative nymph" who "yet a chatterbox, had no other use of speech than she has now, that she could repeat only the last words out of many." She falls in love with Narcissus, whom she catches sight of when he is "chasing frightened deer into his nets." Eventually, after "burning with a closer flame," Echo's presence is revealed to Narcissus, who, after a comic, yet tragic scene, rejects her love. Echo wastes away, until she "remains a voice" and "is heard by all." This is the explanation of the aural effect which was named after her.

Then, Narcissus "tired from both his enthusiasm for hunting and from the heat" rests by a spring, and whilst drinking, "a new thirst grows inside him" and he is "captivated by the image of the beauty he has seen" and falls deeply in love with "all the things for which he himself is admired." He then wastes away with love for himself, echoing the manner in which Echo did earlier on. A while later his body is gone, and in its place is a narcissus flower that came upon his actions.

Here are two poems about their story – the first was written by me as an allegory of the earth and our pride, the second was written by a well-known poet (I will post the name when I find it!)…

She follows him with open heart

Endlessly repeating

His rapacious words

Towards death by his hand

Let us break the spell that binds us

Let it drop away

To hear the voice

The moment Echo saw Narcissus

She was in love. She followed him

Like a starving wolf

Following a stag too strong to be tackled.

And like a cat in winter at a fire

She could not edge close enough

To what singed her, and would burn her.

She almost burst

With longing to call out to him and somehow

Let him know what she felt.

But she had to wait

For some other to speak

So she could snatch their last words

With whatever sense they might lend her.

It so happened, Narcissus

Had strayed apart

From his companions.

He hallooed them: ‘Where are you?

I’m here.’ And Echo

Caught at the syllables as if they were precious:

‘I’m here,’ she cried, ‘I’m here’ and ‘I’m here’ and ‘I’m here.’

Narcissus looked around wildly.

‘I’ll stay here,’ he shouted.

‘You come to me.’ And ‘Come to me,’

Shouted Echo. ‘Come to me,

To me, to me, to me.’

Narcissus stood baffled,

Whether to stay or go. He began to run,

Calling as he ran: ‘Stay there.’ But Echo

Cried back, weeping to utter it, ‘Stay there,

Stay there, stay there, stay there.’

Narcissus stopped and listened. Then, more quietly,

‘Let’s meet halfway. Come.’ And Echo

Eagerly repeated it: ‘Come.’

But when she emerged from the undergrowth

Her expression pleading,

Her arms raised to embrace him,

Narcissus turned and ran.

‘No,’ he cried, ‘no, I would sooner be dead

Than let you touch me.’ Echo collapsed in sobs,

As her voice lurched among the mountains:

‘Touch me, touch me, touch me, touch me.’

Echo moped under the leaves.

Humiliated, she hid

in the deep woods. From that day

Like a hurt lynx, for her

Any cave was a good home.

But love was fixed in her body

Like a barbed arrow. There it festered

With his rejection. Sleeplessly

She brooded over the pain,

Wasting away as she suffered,

The petal of her beauty

Fading and shrivelling, falling from her –

A pirate lord’s dreams

Do you float down milky ways

Hunting for pleasure

white sails and salt spray

Searching for treasure

Do you find hidden pearls

but flaunt what it means

to feel buxom girls

you pulled from their dreams

Do you catch passing ships

As they flee from your sight

Stealing treasures from maidens

Lost in the night

Does the sand in your sheets

Feel like desire

Pressing hard on your skin

Like earth meeting fire

Do you trace down the line

the map in your eyes

Riding back over time

Through millions of lives

Do you gallop on waves

of sea horse and hair

As sweat runs like rivers

and nostrils flare

Do you feel your heart beat

and the time in you breathe

Where destiny and origin

finally meet

my pirate lord is...

a swashbuckling rebel

fighting with the devil

he is…

a river

a stone

an ocean of love

he sees light cut water

from a low sun

from a high sun

from the trees and sky

He is a chord so deep

He runs from my throat to my belly

He is sharp

He is pain

He is becoming

He is reaching

into the light

into beauty

into everything

skin and bones

we can see through

this is something we can do

from out of all this earthy stuff

light in eyes

salt on skin

dancing nights

laugh at everything and thank all the time

bow down your head

in awe and in wonder

how vast and how clever

Things are in development here as I now have time to spend researching...

This is my first blog update on our progress...for a long time!! I have just finished running all our summer rentals here and have virtually done it single-handedly so...phew...glad that's over although, it was so much fun and I met some amazing and beautiful people. I should be posting some more lovely pictures from them soon...

I am working on the website now and making some changes as I go discovering new things and different approaches all the time...deep ecology and the Ringing Cedars movement specifically ....

I am also working on the text for the new workshops to happen here in October and spring.... Hip hop dance at the end of October by two amazing dancers who, by the way, want to come and join our community too (www.flexystudio.com). And in the spring, deep ecology & permaculture programs as well as healing, yoga and personal development - teachers to be confirmed.

At the moment, I have one family, James, Ana and baby Akira, that will be arriving at the end of this month to rent part of the chateau until spring with a view to purchasing a share. I can't wait to meet them. I am looking for more people to come and rent space here with us so if you are interested, please contact me... I will be welcoming two or three volunteers this month and Mark and Carol, our spring co-housing guests are returning for another visit. Hooray!

I am also completing the fundraising letter to go out to a long list of people soon. We are requesting donations so that we will be able to offer subsidised shares as we have found the share price to be a barrier, especially to young families.

I have been gathering legal models for community contracts, management and decision-making.

We finally have a newsletter function and database operational and will be sending out our first newsletter soon to more than 200 people and families who have contacted us from all over the world over the past 6 months. Clara, who is in Argentina, is helping me everyday with my work. Thank you Clara!!

I have created a list of skills and experience that we will need in the community and I have collated all the enquiries specifically for the co-housing so that we can email everyone and tell them about the possibility of subsidised share options to join.

AND...I have been exploring the Ringing Cedars communities and although I only read one of the books so far, I am really getting into the idea of Space of Love community... Also, in the Anastasia communities, every family has their own land as well as the communal land which I like too.

A visit from Mark&Carol, Day trip at Collonges la Rouge

Spring arrived and so did Mark and Carol, beautiful sunshine..enthusiasm and magic moments.... long walks by the lake - found wild food..talked alot about Eco Chateu and the co-housing plans.

Peter stayed for a week of adventure sports - hang gliding, climbing and canoeing (tipped out in the rapids! ha ha) and a day trip to the medieval village, Collonges La Rouge.

Rachel and Rob arrived for their introduction to Eco Chateau with Ella and their dog. We had a Kung Fu class given by Rob and Rachel taught us how to talk to the ancestors of the land which gave us some interesting feedback!

Ben, our third volunteer, arrived to help us start the garden and on cue, the flowers appeared - lucky that nature is so naturally abundant as we spent most of the time sitting around on logs!

Ben came to help us plant our first veggie garden and this he did....but escaping to the woods was his favourite pastime..

do they look like they're working much? we try not to encourage it especially in spring..

We started our first permaculture garden using raised beds with cardboard, straw and earth. We got our first chickens and built a mobile pen for them which was rammed by the fox with 5 casualties. We had our second co-housing visitors, Tim & Laney, who helped us with our gardening and started baking bread. We were given a head-butting ram who keeps chasing everyone and is desperate for a sheep or two!
